Need help with training a dog and other questions?

My puppy always pees on the floor, I have newspaper and I showed him where it is but he never pees on it, he always prefers the floor. When he does I always give him a pat and say “no, bad dog” when he pees on the floor. I’ve been doing that everyday for about a month now and he never learns. What do I do?, also what is a good name for my puppy, hes a boy and he’s a shitzu poodle cross. He’s white with tan color ears and a tan patch on his back, he’s also very fluffy. (like a mop) lol. please help, thanks

you should be giving yourself ” a pat and say ‘bad owner’”. when a dog empties in the house it is the owner fault. he is a puppy like you said, and needs to be on a routine. this means every couple hours, or every hour for that matter, YOU need to take him out to empty. stay out until he does and then make a HUGE deal about him doing it outside. putting newspaper down on the floor and trying to get him to go on that, will only confuse him and frustrate you. you are telling him it is okay to pee inside. after awhile you should be able to extend the amount of time before you take him out. But every time he comes out of his crate or after eating, he needs to go outside. Routine.
