Cross Country Inter Insular for Stone Crusher
It was certainly a blustery morning at the Channel Islands Cross Country Inter Insulars at LAncreasse. Dozens of competitors from Jersey had made the trip over to take on the Sarnians on a formidable course. This year athletes were tackling the infamous Boron Stone Crusher course, which is at LAncreasse Common. It’s 2 miles in all and each different class would do a various amounts of laps.
There was going to be an interesting encounter in the women’s race, which was over 2 laps and 4 miles. It was going to be a straight fight between Guernsey’s Louise Perrio and Jerseys Jo Goddard. Perrio is currently a Hampshire County champion, and was the favourite to take first place. But Goddard is an excellent competitor too with several previous inter insular titles under her belt.
It was Perrio who pulled out in the lead early in the race. Goddard was nearly as impressive leaving the rest of the field minutes behind. But Goddord never looked like she was going to catch Perrio who crossed the line with a monstrous win over more than a Stone Crusher.
“I don’t get scared,” says Van Horn, who just happens to drive a rig called Grave Digger. “But sometimes when I’m trying to get big air, some 25 feet off the ground, that’s when I might get a little worried.” As for us, we aren’t a bit concerned, knowing that the Advance Auto Parts Monster Jam will deliver a weekend’s worth of huge jumps, crushed opponents, and cheering crowds: In other words, everything we’ve been missing from the Cavs!
