The History of .925 Solid Sterling Silver
In former day Turkey, which used to be Anatolia, is where the beginning of silver comes from in the mines which was approximately in 4000 BC. Mainly all the silver trading and areas where silver would come from would be from Anatolia. However, silver also comes in a different variety of different finishes such as rhodium. Then 1,000 years later silver was beginning to get exposure worldwide and more people were becoming aware of it. Then 500 years after that point, it is said that the Chinese enhanced on refining silver in several different ways and methods.
Sterling silver jewelry has been around since 4000 BC and even then it was considered a precious metal. It’s been moving up through the fashion world as new designs and style emerge over the years, and as time goes on silver just keeps getting more popular. Silver jewelry comes in a different variety of styles and textures. The places which we now know that held the silver mines were Peru, Mexico, and other areas around the same region. It is said today that at that time 75% of the source of silver came from that area.
Everything from fine designer jewelry to computer chips to file is used and needed with silver. It also shows a very powerful form by being used in many currencies through the planet. The characteristic of white gold with it’s silver but slightly darker finish can be seen in silver jewelry today, but at that time it couldn’t have this finishing. Although it has so many purposes, I believe the best use of it is in producing jewelry products. The usual silver that is seen on jewelry is usually highly polished and reflects the light beautifully.
As time went on, present day Turkey become less and less used for silver as Greece became a new source for it throughout the planet. As more time went on, Greece grew out of the picture and Spain came into the picture of powerful silver all over the world. The point where sterling silver jewelry really began to spread like a wildfire was much later when both American’s (North & South) were discovered. It began using its silver to trade for things it lacked, such as other goods, spices, and products from other nations.
Sterling silver is a big market in todays economy and it has manufacturers, wholesalers, retailers, and buyers that at any given time control the shift and fluctuation of the price of silver by the day. There you have it, fine sterling silver and a basic history of the who, what, when, where, and of course we all know the why today. Because we all love wearing fine silver jewelry!
