Cross Pendant – A Symbol Of Sacrifice
It is a common notion that a cross symbolizes the crucifying of Jesus Christ and hence is to be used by Christians only. But it is time that we should see it in a broader perspective and that is what most of the people of today are doing. It is not symbolizing the crucifying alone rather it gives us all humans a lesson about the value of humanity and sacrifice. To remind us all about this at every moment, the Cross Pendant is hung in the neck on a chain. This comes in various forms that can range from simple cross to those that come with details and even with an outline structure of Jesus Christ.
Apart from this, these crosses vary slightly from region to region. The Maltese cross is a unique and most opted for as it not only reminds us of sacrifice but teaches and stresses on more virtues like piousness, being brave, loyal, frank, glory and respect, humanity especially for the sick and poor, fearlessness to death and respecting and believing one’s religion. These eight main virtues are symbolized by way of eight points in the pendant.
With increased awareness and broader view, people from other religion too have started using the Cross Pendant in their chain. Some neutralists are using it simply as a fashion statement. Whatever may be the intention but the fact is that the Cross Pendant has gained popularity and is widely being used.
These can be made and used in various metals that include gold, sterling silver. Some, with diamond stones embedded in it is used to give it a more gorgeous and attractive look. A Cross Pendant is becoming more famous especially among the youngsters who have got a much broader approach to religion, values and fashion. They are making a right blend of all the three and giving a contemporary meaning to the cross.
The design of the pendant depends upon one’s choice and their budget. The simple one’s would normally cost less while the intricate designs and details would incur a bit higher charge and also would call for a bigger size enough to accommodate the design. So this means more of the metal i.e. silver or gold. Also this is necessary to give clarity to the design and the figure. Apart from this, the size of the cross depends upon the person wearing. Normally, men wear a bigger sized Cross Pendant to get that masculine look while the females wear a small to moderate sized ones.
Now only making the pendant is not enough. A suitable chain that will hold this pendant has to be made. The proportion should be well balanced to make it durable. If the pendant is heavy and the chain is thinner then there are chances of the chain to break under its weight.
