State of Israel Coins Jerusalem Reunification Bronze Medal $201.79 The 40th Anniversary of the Reunification of Jerusalem is being marked in Israel by many official events and at our Corporation by the striking of a State Medal. Since King David made the city the capital of his kingdom more than three thousand years ago Jerusalem has remained the capital of the Jewish people. At the end of the War of Independence in 1948 Jerusalem was divided into two and the city that was declared the capital of the State of Israel by the Knesset in April 1949 remained divided for 19 years until the Six Day War of 1967. On June 7 1967 28 Iyar 5727 less than three days after the outbreak of the war Israeli troops claimed victory over the opposing forces defending the Old City. The Israel Government declared Jerusalem Day a symbol of the historic bond between the city and the Jewish people and of its reunification. In 1980 the Knesset enacted the Basic Law Jerusalem declaring the united city of Jerusalem to be capital of Israel. The 40th Anniversary of Reunification is being celebrated throughout the year. Obverse:. The official emblem of these celebrations decorates the obverse of this new State Medal. Reverse:. On the reverse the Western Wall the heart of the city and the most revered site. Edge:. Designer:. Igal Gabay. Gold medal: The Government Mint Jerusalem. Silver and Bronze medals: Hecht Mint Tel Aviv. Details: 11770700 2007 Bronze 70.0 Diameter mm. 140.0 Weight gm. |
