The Art Deco District of Miami!

One of the most popular places to live in Miami Beach Florida is the famous Art Deco district. Located along Ocean drive and spanning throughout the neighborhood of Miami Beach. One might be mistaken to believe that this district was established as a result of a series of positive happenings as it has been termed famous but that would be contrary to the truth. Art Deco was brought largely to Miami Beach as a result of the major hurricane in nineteen twenty six which came so close to annihilating the city.

With the area needing to be rebuilt, and with Miami Beach being a haven for wealthy families at the time, it was only befitting that the area be redesigned in the new modern style of the time. This project was carried out by wealthy Americans who decided to use the ultramodern style of Art Deco, that was first introduced to the world in Paris, to redesign the city. Some of the common characteristics of this style, which can still be seen today, include a “modernization” of past art including rounded edges and portholes.

However, as time as gone by, many of these historic edifices have undergone massive wear and tear that has stripped them of their former glory. To add insult to injury, a threat of a new modernization was introduced but this was met with a lot of resistance largely due to the fact that the district was included in the national register of historic places. Something had to be done to ensure these precious edifices were not lost.
