Christ God
The Kingdom of God Experiment
A true scientist is taught by the results of his experimentation, or experience. In this way let us who seek Christ seek Him experimentally. All Christ-followers are called to maintain this as their experiment: To actively seek God’s will until the day they die.
A sincere lover of truth lets his mind and convictions be conformed to the evident truth, which remains true apart from any puny man. False seekers, however, are those who arbitrarily decide what is right before they have knocked on any doors or asked for any answers. Such is the unreasonableness of sinful men, that they will fling themselves down to hell in order to be right, rather than find out what is right.
Small minds impose their own versions of “the way things should be” on the world around them. They even impose their smallness on God Himself. However, any god that can be molded by men is not God.
But greater is the man that lets God be Himself so that God might make that man into a man of God. From now ’til our deathbeds, if we consistently leave ourselves open to Christ and let Him define Himself, then there will be no doubt that He is the One who makes this life worthwhile.
And, if we seek Him at all, then we should do so diligently. If our thirst is genuine then let’s embrace such an extremely sincere mindset that, in all humility, we will not give up until we find out whether Jesus is the Christ or if we should we look for someone else.
It’s this kind of seeking that we’re calling “experimentation.” This is a God-honoring quality of seeking.
And we who belong to Christ are designed to experiment collectively. We can only contribute to God’s kingdom God’s way, which means we can only succeed as an entire church of God. Our individual objectives in this experiment amounts to a singular, corporate goal, the culmination of which will be a product of Christ’s handiwork, not at all our own doing.
If I am Christ’s and if you are Christ’s, then I can’t know my place in Christ as He intended without you also knowing your place. I am not Christ’s apart from you, and you are not His apart from me. We are all equally Christ’s, equally second place to Him, the Head. And all of the people whom He purposefully chose make up His fullness on earth. This is how God intended His fullness to exist on earth. This has been His goal since before the world existed.
God has given us at least a glimpse of a greater spiritual house, made mysteriously with redeemed souls. This house follows a heavenly pattern, which doesn’t naturally make sense to us. We can’t duplicate this divine work on our own. For this reason, God’s designs for His church and His general way of doing things tend to make us uncomfortable.
However, those who are willing to step out experimentally in Christ will also be teachable in Him.
Maturity in Christ will not lead us to add up all the right answers that we have on our own, but rather it will lead us toward forgetting ourselves altogether, so that He is our All in all. The Spirit will lead us away from our decaying flesh to the best place any human could ever hope to be, which is planted down solid in the foundation of Truth Himself. As we fellowship with Christ in every aspect of daily life, He will teach us little by little, as much as we can handle, however much He knows is wise to invest in us.
Wherever we are, experience will teach us that we only need Christ. He embodies every spiritual asset necessary for our heavenly living on earth. This way, if there should be any heavenly accomplishment on this earth, then all credit for this will go to Him and not at all to us.
It’s the basic things about Christ that make me want to explore Him. The fact that He is and the fact that He is continually available makes me long to know Him more and dwell in Him all the time.
As of right now Christ is available to everyone who seeks God. He meets seekers where they are and builds them up from there. This is for our encouragement, so that we will keep seeking Him.
Step by frightening step, as we continue dwelling in Christ, God’s spiritual goals will come increasingly into focus. As we strive into unknown, spiritual territory toward obedience, we will also delight to forget ourselves in favor of remembering only Christ.
Christ will continue to be our only Satisfaction as He establishes His kingdom in and around us. Our job is to become more like nothing, and thereby make room for His Spirit to fill us completely. And, while is the eternally filling Substance for His people, He also consumes us like the blazing fire of God.
Do we know Him who is the original Architect, who is both the Cornerstone as well as the One who holds the whole building together? If yes, then we also can rest assured that He is competent and more than worthy of all our active, obedient trust.
Do we know the One who embodies God’s heavenly plans as well as His spiritual house on earth? If yes, then we needn’t worry about being privy to every last detail of God’s plans. But rather, it is our honorable place to accept whatever simple grace He gives us. A mere glimpse of Him is more than we can handle in any case.
In Christ, we needn’t act like anything that we’re not. We needn’t try to fit ourselves into any religious mold that seems like a good idea. And we needn’t try to impress ourselves or others with any complicated, religious theories. The simple, reasonable truth of the matter is that we can only work with whatever Christ gives us.
So what do we have to work with? We have whatever grace God allots to us. We live on borrowed life and we breathe in borrowed breath. Each day (if God gives us another day) brings new opportunities to become familiar with His mind for us. We who work for Him have this highest honor of building on whatever portion of His blueprints He reveals to us using whatever tools He sees fit to give us. He has honored us with maybe two or three spiritual stones to stack into His spiritual house. So let’s stack them with the greatest of care and dedication, in anxious longing to see if God won’t give us one more stone, one more clue to His kingdom or one more glimpse of Himself.
We have no choice but to be limited to knowing whatever God has taught us thus far. But this limitation is purposeful, a reminder of God’s wisdom. We are limited so that Christ is our Fullness, not us. Though we are limited, yet He is the Completeness of God.
Therefore, knowing the fullness and sufficiency of Christ, let Him instill in you, O reader, a tenaciously forward-moving momentum. You may have learned a thing or two from living, and that’s a good thing. But keep moving. Let Christ keep moving you. By the Spirit of God, move beyond yourself, beyond me and beyond the scope of this book. If there is any substance in these pages, then it was meant to be tested and tried. Even better, it was meant to be absorbed and surpassed. When in doubt, you should approach Christ directly to see if He supports the things I am saying and, even better, to see if He supports everything you are doing and saying.

Christ $11.99 With the same passionate scholarship and analytical audacity he brought to the character of God, Jack Miles now approaches the literary and theological enigma of Jesus. In so doing, he tells the story of a broken promise–God’s ancient covenant with Israel–and of its strange, unlooked-for fulfillment. For, having abandoned his chosen people to an impending holocaust at the hands of their Roman conquerors. God, in the person of Jesus, chooses to die with them, in what is effectively an act of divine suicide. On the basis of this shocking argument, Miles compels us to reassess Christ’s entire life and teaching: His proclivity for the powerless and disgraced. His refusal to discriminate between friends and enemies. His transformation of defeat into a victory that redeems not just Israel but the entire world. Combining a close reading of the Gospels with a range of reference that includes Donne, Nietzche, and Elie Wiesel, Christ: A Crisis in the Life of God is a work of magnificent eloquence and imagination. From the Trade Paperback edition. |

Jesus Christ, the One Person of God $11.5 “Most Christians are at a loss to explain how Jesus is God. The Trinity only leads to questioning. How are three one? Do we pray to God or Jesus? Is the Holy Spirt the presence of Jesus, God, or is he apart from them? “God” becomes an unexplainable mystery. Misunderstanding the titles of God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit leads many to believe that there is more than one Person of God. This book explains there is only One. You will understand with scriptural clarity that God’s name has always been Jesus Christ, and why the Bible declares ” Jesus Christ] is before all things, and by him all things consist.”" |

Women in the Church of God in Christ $69.95 The Church of God in Christ (COGIC), an African American Pentecostal denomination founded in 1896, has become the largest Pentecostal denomination in the United States today. In this first major study of the church, Anthea Butler examines the religious and social lives of the women in the COGIC Women's Department from its founding in 1911 through the mid-1960s. She finds that the sanctification, or spiritual purity, that these women sought earned them social power both in the church and in the black community. |

God, Christ and Us $100 Here is a collection of Herbert McCabe's more popular spiritual writings. McCabe was highly regarded as a writer on philosophy and theology but in true Dominican tradition (the Order of Preachers) he was also a brilliant preacher. He always preached in a lively and witty way – his style has been compared to that of G.K. Chesterton. This collection of his sermons and spiritual addresses are never platitudinous or short of ideas, filled with questions, arguments and solid intellectual content. The major influence on McCabe was the Bible but he was also a devoted admirer of the thought of St Thomas Aquinas, whose ideas saturated his public speaking. From the Bible, McCabe derived the notion of God leading us to happiness through the work of grace and through the life and teachings of Jesus. From Aquinas, McCabe derived a hatred of idolatry, a powerful sense of the incomprehensibility of God and a recognition that we depend on God's gracious revelation of himself rather that what we can work out on the basis of our limited understanding. A presiding theme in this book is that we are saved because of the life of someone fully human. God, Christ and Us communicates the essence of the Gospel in an original and compelling way. It can therefore be mentioned in the same breath as works by Dean Inge, Donald Soper, H.A. Williams and Leslie Weatherhead. |

The God of Jesus Christ $14.95 In this book of meditations, based on a series of homilies and meditations presented and compiled by the author shortly before he became Archbishop of Munich-Freising, in 1977, theologian Joseph Ratzinger (now Pope Benedict XVI) presents his profound thoughts on the nature and person of God, building a bridge between theology and spirituality as he makes wide use of the Sacred Scriptures to reveal the beauty and mystery of who God is. He writes about each of the three persons in the Holy Trinity, showing the different attributes of each person, and that ???God is three and God is one.??? ”God is”and the Christian faith adds: God is as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, three and one. This is the very heart of Christianity, but it is so often shrouded in a silence born of perplexity. Has the Church perhaps gone one step too far here? Ought we not rather leave something so great and inaccessible as God in his inaccessibility? Can something like the Trinity have any real meaning for us? It is certainly true that the proposition that “God is three and God is one” is and remains the expression of his otherness, which is infinitely greater than us and transcends all our thinking and our existence. But, as Joseph Ratzinger shows, if this proposition meant nothing to us, it would not have been revealed! And as a matter of fact, it could be clothed in human language only because it had already penetrated human thinking and living to some extent. ‘ ‘”Without Jesus, we do not know what ‘Father’ truly is. This becomes visible in his prayer, which is the foundation of his being. A Jesus who was not continuously absorbed in the Father, and was not in continuous intimate communication with him, would be a completely different being from the Jesus of the Bible, the real Jesus of history- In Jesus’ prayer, the Father becomes visible and Jesus makes himself known as the Son. The unity which this reveals is the Trinity. Accordingly, becoming a Christian means sharing in Jesus’ prayer, entering into the model provided by his life, i.e. the model of prayer. Becomng a Christian means saying ‘Father’ with Jesus, and thus becoming a child, God’s son”God”in the unity of the Spirit, who allows us to be ourselves and precisely in this way draws us into the unity of God. Being a Christian means looking at the world from this central point, which gives us freedom, hope, decisiveness, and consolation.”‘ ” Joseph Ratzinger (now Pope Benedict XVI) ‘In this profound series of meditations, Ratzinger shows the enduring core of his theology. The future pope begins with an ancient Jewish story: The prophet Jeremiah and his son one day succeeded in creating a living man, through the correct combination of words and letters. ???Now that you are able to create a man, God is dead. My life is the death of God,??? the man says. Ratzinger then shows that man’s knowledge of God depends on the relationship that a man establishes between himself and the world and his life; that |

Jesus Christ, Eternal God $65 In this groundbreaking study, Stephen H. Webb offers a new theological understanding of the material and spiritual: that, far from being contradictory, they unite in the very stuff of the eternal Jesus Christ. Accepting matter as a perfection (or predicate) of the divine requires a rethinking of the immateriality of God, the doctrine of creation out of nothing, the Chalcedonian formula of the person of Christ, and the analogical nature of religious language. It also requires a careful reconsideration of Augustine's appropriation of the Neo-Platonic understanding of divine incorporeality as well as Origen's rejection of anthropomorphism. Webb locates his position in contrast to evolutionary theories of emergent materialism and the popular idea that the world is God's body. He draws on a little known theological position known as the ''heavenly flesh'' Christology, investigates the many misunderstandings of its origins and relation to the Monophysite movement, and supplements it with retrievals of Duns Scotus, Caspar Scwenckfeld and Eastern Orthodox reflections on the transfiguration. Also included in Webb's study are discussions of classical figures like Barth and Aquinas as well as more recent theological proposals from Bruce McCormack, David Hart, and Colin Gunton. Perhaps most provocatively, the book argues that Mormonism provides the most challenging, urgent, and potentially rewarding source for metaphysical renewal today. Webb's concept of Christian materialism challenges traditional Christian common sense, and aims to show the way to a more metaphysically sound orthodoxy. |

God of Jesus Christ $110 Kasper is a master synthesiser, and his display of erudition alone makes this book a worthy read and an invaluable resource for questions of God and Trinity. Using admittedly polemical language, he calls for a 'theological theology' which makes the explanation of the confession of the triune God its first priority, not only for speculative but also for pastoral reasons. This is the reissue of a theological work of considerable importance for which Cardinal Kasper has written an entirely new introduction taking modern developments in theology fully into account. |

The Christ of the Revelation $12.99 “In The Christ of the Revelation, author Dan R. Shackelford writes with a power-driven emphasis on the Word of God, spotlighting the end-times on the preeminent figure of Jesus Christ. Searching through the prophetic revelation of Christ to John, the beloved, he focuses, not just on Christs importance, but what He reveals of Himself in the prophecy. Exciting and timely, The Christ of the Revelation lifts the curtain of history to unveil Christ the Almighty, the power of God manifested to man, and the amen in all things. Shackelford paints a masterful picture as vivid and colorful as the revelation itself. The Christ of the Revelation will alter how you view the book of Revelation and will empower you to a closer walk with The Christ of the Revelation.” |

God’s Human Face: The Christ Icon $16.95 The principal editor of the Catechism of the Catholic Church , presents the sources of meditation on the mystery of God’s human face from the great Masters of early Christianity. Artists and theologians have meditated upon the mystery of God’s human countenance and tried to express it. This book seeks to present the great sources of this meditation–sources which today are widely unknown, or have become foreign or obscure. These sources are above all the great masters of early Christianity. In their meditation upon Christ, Bishop Schonborn seeks the sources of the art on the Icon. The reader will find not only an engaging introduction to the meaning and beauty of Icons, but an invitation to draw closer to the One who inspired these Masters of theological expression and holy art. Includes beautiful color Icon illustrations. ” |

A Membership Guide to the Body of Christ: God’s Call to Action $14.99 “Our culture and morals are rapidly deteriorating. Our churches are creating compromising Christians and as a result, Christians have become more silent as God is removed from society. A Membership Guide to the Body of Christ is a call to action to return to Gods word. You are a part of something much greater than you can imagine, the Body of Christ. Christians must learn to work together, not against each other, to accomplish the mission that God has given us, the Great Commission. It is necessary to learn how to be a true member of the body of Christ even when others are not. This book helps a believer learn how we should act both inside and outside the church. Each of us has a purpose and a plan that God has ordained. Jesus Christ was radical in his pursuit of his Fathers plan. A Membership Guide to the Body of Christ is a call for the body to get radical, get real, and get right by aligning ourselves with the word of God.” |

God Is! $16.99 “GOD IS why evolution isn’tdemonstrates how the nature/character of GOD is the death knell to the modern mythology of evolution, as it is to all human mythologies. There is much confusion among Christians and the general public regarding creation and evolution and what each implies about the nature of GOD. This book by A. Arthur Pinno seeks to bring Biblical clarity to many of the questions that people have in this area. Does the universe testify to the glory of GOD? Is GOD’s signature found in every cell? GOD vs. Nothing: Where do you think everything came from? Are humans mutated apes? How does dinosaur blood reveal a young earth? How does the relativity of time impact the age of the universe? Is evolution a massive worldwide conspiracy of scientists? Is theistic evolution a bridge between Christianity and science? What are the basic assumptions of evolution? What are the fruits of the evolutionary tree? Were Adam and Eve real people? What did JESUS believe about creation and the flood? Who is GOD and how can anyone actually know Him? Could a GOD of love create hell?A. Arthur Pinno is the director of Ends of the Earth Courier for CHRIST, a ministry dedicated to sharing the grace and truth of CHRIST in word and deed in Canada, Russia, India, Burundi and other ends of the earth where GOD leads. He has been a pastor for over twenty-five years, serving in both Canada and the United States. For the past six years, he has also served as president of the Association of Free Lutheran Congregations, Canada. He and his wife, Dorothy, have been blessed with four children and presently live in Vernon, British Columbia, Canada.” |
