Becoming a Godfather, advice?
I’ve been asked to be Godfather to my new niece. I know basically what the duties of a Godfather are, but I’m wanting to make sure I’m well prepared for everything. Any general advice would be great.
I’m also trying to come up with a good gift to give her. Any good (creative) ideas. I know the other Godparent is steering towards a more religious idea, so I’m thinking of looking at other ideas (college savings, jewelry with birthstones, etc?). Any ideas? Is there a price rance I should try to stay within?

first off, congratulations on being a Godfather! i think that the best thing a Godparent can do is be there for their Godchild and let the Godchild know that they’re there for them. be supportive of her and don’t forget that she’s your Godchild. basically, just be part of her life, i mean, you shouldn’t get too involved since she isn’t your child but definitely be there for her.
a college savings sounds like a really good gift especially since college tuition is so expensive and will probably be more expensive when she goes to college but you should talk to the parents first to make sure they don’t already have one started and even if they did, you could always give money to put in the savings. jewelry is a cute gift too. just remember that she won’t really appreciate the gift until she’s older.
